Tolkein

Some "new" Tolkein is due to be published soon. The story, "The Children of Hurin," set in the early days of Middle Earth (in the time of The Silmarillion), has been carefully edited by JRRT's son, Christopher. Keep an eye out - this should be good.

Our Education System is Made of Suck

Jordan Cooper posted a video from TED that is not only funny, but shows much of what's wrong with modern education systems.

The essential idea is that since most education systems are designed to
train half your brain for productivity in modern economies, they are
not truly educating you, and are in fact harming many otherwise
talented people who don't fit the mold. (i.e., the creative people get
the shaft, or Paxil...)

The video goes after public ed, but I'll lump home school in there as
well, since a good number of home school parents are using some kind of
pre-packaged education plan that has the same result as what's
criticized.
